Easy “Crock Pot, Pot Roast” Recipe

Who doesn’t love a good, hearty, warm meal like a pot roast? This is one of the easiest meals I make. For cooking, it only requires a pan to brown the meat with the onions and a crock pot to slow-cook all of the ingredients together.

I’m betting that you will love the ease of making this meal, the pleasure of serving and eating it!

Part of what makes this meal so easy to make is this little Crock Pot I own. It holds 1.5 quarts, which is plenty for making about 4 servings of this recipe.

I won’t be telling you a setting for temperature because this Crock Pot only has plugged in or not plugged in.

Ingredients

(try to use organics whenever you can)

  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil (you can use avocado, corn or olive oil if you prefer)
  • 1 cup red onion
  • 1 to 1¼ pounds beef chuck roast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 cup carrots
  • 4 peeled, medium-sized red potatoes (this is about 2 cups in total)

Food Items Used to Cook This Meal

Adding the Oil, Red Onions and Beef Chuck Roast in a Frying Pan

Add one tablespoon of grapeseed oil to a frying pan. Spread it around the bottom.

I like to use grapeseed oil, but you might prefer to use avocado, corn or olive oil. The choice is up to you.

Slice 1 cup of red onion.

If you are in the market for a good knife, Cuisinart forged knives work well. I found an inexpensive set of three, so if you are interested in buying good knives, click here.

Put the red onion into the pan. Turn the heat to medium and begin browning them.

I am allergic to nickel. I was told by my doctor to reduce my exposure to metals that can transfer nickel to me. That included all of my stainless steel pots and pans. My doctor told me to use pans with a ceramic coating inside. I found GreenPan which ticked this box for me.
If you would like a GreenPan frying pan, I suggest you buy one from the GreenPan Valencia Pro series.
If you don’t have any of these pans and you would like an entire set of the Valencia Pro, the price is much better in a set than when buying one piece at a time.

After the onion begins to turn transparent, add 1 to 1¼ pounds of cut beef chuck roast into the frying pan.

I like to get my beef prepared ahead of time. Trim excess fat off of the beef chuck roast. Slice the meat into ¼” strips. Cut the meat into 1″ sections (making each piece approximately bite-sized).

Seasonings and Browning the Meat

Sprinkle in and stir;

1 tablespoon granulated garlic

½ teaspoon pepper.

1 teaspoon salt.

Brown the meat.

Continue stirring until all of the meat is browned (no pink showing).

Put all of the browned onion and meat into the Crock Pot and turn it on.

Add ¼ cup water to your frying pan and stir (moving all of the good juices and flavors that are stuck in it, into the water).

Pour the contents of water and juices into the Crock Pot.

Add the Vegetables to the Crock Pot

(Before I begin to cut my vegetables, I always rinse them first).

Add 1 cup carrots…

I like to use organic baby carrots. You can slice them or dice them or just put them in whole. The choice is up to you.

One cup of carrots.

Add the 4 peeled and diced red potatoes…

4 peeled and diced medium red potatoes come to about 2 cups.

…into the Crock Pot.

All ingredients are in.

Stir everything around so the contents are well mixed.

Put the lid on the Crock Pot and let it work its magic for 2 hours.

If you have a bigger Crock Pot, you can easily double or triple this recipe. The cooking time will likely be longer though.

Each serving size in a little bit more than one cup. This Crock Pot Easily serves two people with enough for two more servings, (yum!!! leftovers)!

Dinner is Served

I find that a meal presented well tastes even better.

The flatware is the Oneida brand. The pattern is called Copeland. It is nickel-free (identified as 18/0).
The stemware is Cristal D’Arques of France. The cut pattern is called Longchamp.
The dinnerware including the salt and pepper shakers, is Hallmark brand.
The candle holder is Gorham of West Germany.
The butter dish is as yet unidentified, but I’m working on it.
Several of the items sitting on the table, I found while treasure hunting. Ask me about treasure hunting someday.

It’s All Relative

One of my cousins invited me to dinner at her house. She had set her table to serve 10 people. What I found was that each place setting had an entirely different pattern of dinnerware. Her table was both beautiful and fun because each guest could choose which place setting they wanted to use (unless one of the other guests had already claimed that place).
